Q1: What is online phonics tutoring?
A1: Online phonics tutoring is a method of virtual learning in which children are taught phonics by a qualified tutor through an online platform. This approach enables pupils to develop and practise their phonics skills from home, offering both flexibility and tailored support within a convenient digital environment.
Q2: What age range is suitable for online phonics tutoring?
A2: Online phonics tutoring is well-suited for children aged approximately 4 to 9 , a crucial stage for building strong foundations in reading and phonics. Our programme is thoughtfully tailored to meet the individual needs and learning styles of children within this age range, ensuring meaningful progress in their literacy journey. For children aged 9 and above who may still benefit from phonics support, we are more than happy to provide targeted guidance to aid their continued development.
Q3. How effective is online phonics tutoring compared to in-person sessions?
A3. Certainly! Online phonics tutoring is just as effective as in-person lessons – often more so. With engaging digital resources, interactive activities, and personalised support from experienced tutors, learning with Jessica is both flexible and convenient. Children make strong progress in reading and spelling from the comfort of home. Whether one-to-one or in small groups, our sessions are designed to support your child’s literacy development with excellent results.
Q4. What qualifications and experience does Jessica have?
A4. Jessica holds a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status and has over ten years of experience teaching in primary schools across London and the surrounding areas. Over the years, Jessica has supported children in developing early literacy skills, working with pupils from a range of backgrounds, age groups, and learning abilities.
Q5. Do I need any additional resources or tools for the online sessions?
A5. For online phonics tutoring sessions with Jessica, only a few basic resources are needed to support your child’s learning experience:
Reliable Internet Connection – A stable and fast connection ensures smooth video and audio throughout the session.
Device – A computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a working webcam and microphone is essential. Jessica uses the Funclass virtual classroom platform; Jessica will send you the link to the class. Nothing needs to be downloaded.
Charger Within Reach – Please ensure the device remains charged and operational throughout the lesson.
Headphones (Optional) – Headphones can help reduce background noise and improve audio clarity.
Writing Materials – Have pens, pencils, paper, and ideally a small whiteboard with a pen and eraser to hand, so your child can fully engage with written activities.
Printer (Optional) – While not essential, a printer can be useful for printing worksheets or additional resources when desired.
Jessica will provide access to any specific digital tools or resources needed for each session.
